RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The foundation of St. Alban Roe School is its Catholic identity and teaching.  We offer our students many different opportunities to learn more about the Catholic faith and to share the faith with one another.  We are blessed to have three Religious Sisters on our Faculty.  The Sisters are with the St. Francis of the Martyr St. George order based in Alton, Illinois, and they are wonderful role models for our children.

Each week students attend a Level mass (primary, intermediate or middle school) and an all school mass.  Classes take turns preparing the music and students participate as servers, readers, cantors, gift bearers and banner carriers.  Students also receive instruction in preparation for Sacraments (First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation).  We have a new Adoration Chapel in our school building open to students for quiet reflection and prayer as well as small group prayer services.

Students in Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten receive religious instruction through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program in a specially designed area called the atrium.  The program is conducted by ladies of St. Alban Roe Parish who are certified Catechists of the Good Shepherd.  Children become familiar with how the mass is prepared, how the altar is set up, the movements of the priests, what is on the altar,  the seasons of the church and much more.  The atrium is much more than a classroom for religious education.  Rather, it is a sacred space for our children to share, explore, investigate, learn, and worship.  It is a place for our students to walk a little closer to God.

Throughout the school year, students have a number of community service opportunities including writing letters to military members, veterans and the elderly and donating items through food drives and Christmas Outreach.

Students participate in a Living Rosary
