In September 2003, the Archdiocese of St. Louis initiated a new safe environment program entitled “Protecting God’s Children.” It is consistent with the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.”
It requires that all individuals (including employees, volunteers and religious) in a parish, school, or agency of a diocese who have regular contact with minors comply with certain requirements to determine whether they are suitable for working with minors. The three requirements include:
1. Complete a “Worker Registration” form which is a request for a background check from the State of Missouri.
2. Read and sign a Commitment to the Code of Ethical Conduct.
3. Attend a Protecting God’s Children Class
This comprehensive 2-3 hour program includes two video presentations which provide information on how to prevent situations that can lead to abuse, on what behavior should raise concern, and on how to report abuse. Dates and times of classes are reported in the parish bulletin periodically and can also be accessed at the website: www.archstl.org/sep
This class needs to be attended only once.
All volunteers must be in compliance before they are allowed to volunteer or work in any capacity. The well being of our children depends on us. If you have any questions as to whether you are in compliance or not, please contact Sally Tschopp at 636.458.2977 ext. 246
