Teaching Children to Recycle by Example!

Here at St. Alban Roe we have a true dedication to protect and preserve this beautiful world God has given us.  We teach our students to respect the environment by our own example here at school.  We recycle paper in our classrooms and our Eighth Graders are our Helpers in this project each week.  We also have large bins located at the back of the parking lot near the soccer fields so that you can bring in your paper products for recycling to continue this example at home.  You can also help offset the cost of paper at school just by recycling your paper here at school in our bins.

We also purchase recycled ink cartridges and send out our toner and ink to be recycled to minimize the waste produced by classroom printing.  You can help reduce the cost of paper and ink for the school by donating your used inkjet cartridges and Laser Toner.  If you would like to send the ink or toner to school with the children, please send it in a small sealed sandwich bag.

In addition to ink and paper we also recycle all of our old computers, monitors, printers, and other technology items.  All of these items can not be placed in the regular trash pickup.  These items contains materiels that can be harmful to us and to our environment if not properly disposed.  If you would like information on where you can recycle old technolgy items please feel free to email me at lbarry@stalbanroe.org and I will be happy to pass along that information.

The Library Media Center
The Jonathan Forshaw Memorial Library houses the Media Center which provides an environment in which K-8 students, teachers, librarian and technology coordinator collaborate on curricular-based projects. The Library Media Center provides an interactive Mulitmedia presentation space for teachers to interact with their students through a variety of technology options. The Media Center provides a dedicated space and time for students in grades K-5th to use laptops to explore, learn and expand on classroom curriculum. The space is also used for our Middle School Students during study halls, library, special programs, and Electronic Field Trips.  Critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, teamwork and presentation skills are a primary focus.  The students learn to adapt easily and explore confidently as new technology is incorporated into the curriculum.
The Elementary School
Our school is committed to the technological education of our students. This is represented by the emphasis that St. Alban Roe places on mastery of computer concepts and their ability to imagine innovative uses for technology across a range of problems and subjects. Every Classroom in the school is equipped with an Assisted Listening System. In addition each classroom in grades Kindergarten through eighth has a SmartBoard & Projector installed. Our teachers attend trainings throughout the school year to keep their skills up to date and ever expanding to meet the changing nature of technology.
Our K-5 students meet weekly for classes; grades 6, 7 and 8 are scheduled take advantage of the extensive wifi system in the school and use the laptops in the field. This allows for writing projects in Language Arts class, Lab exercises in Math & Science, research in History, as well as in their Encore subjects. There are 50 laptops available in addition to desktops systems in each classroom. In late Fall 2011 we added a mini lab of 15 dekstop pcs in the Technology Office.  Teacher can resernve this space for small group work, with a focus on writing and math.  Teachers can also reserve the Media Center to meet the time needs of special projects. Research, outlining, writing, math data, multimedia components and presentation are some of the factors considered in scheduling. We also provide other services & devices such as Smart Response, Smart Tablets. digital cameras, video cameras, projectors, cable in the classroom, and CCT. Our Middle School Students host a weekly edition of “Wake Up St. Alban Roe” Television show just as another example of how we strive to integrate technology into their daily routines.
Please review our Security Policy and AUP on the School Forms page, as we strive not only provide a safe and secure environment for our students to use technology, but to also install a sense of respect and responsibility in our students. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Miss Barry at lbarry@stalbanroe.org or at 636.458.6084
