Welcome to Mrs. Bobbitt's

Library Website

May 2012

NEW BOOKS    NEW BOOKS     NEW BOOKS

Thanks to your support of the Scholastic Book Fair last Fall, 190 new books and 111 AR quizzes have been purchased for the library. The students love to read the new books and often suggest titles they would like to see added to the library collection.

LAST DAY TO CHECK OUT BOOKS

The last day to check out books is quickly approaching.  Students will be allowed to check books out until May 11th.  All books are due back on May 18th.  Books that are not returned will be assumed lost and the student will be charged for the replacement fee.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerater Reader is the nations's best selling motivational reading program.   It is used by more than 30,000 schools nationwide.  The AR program encourages students to reach their highest reading potential by measuring the quality, quantity and level of reading.  Students are tested to determine their beginning reading level and are awarded points as they read and successfully complete tests on books in their reading level.   There are over 2,850 AR books and quizzes available in the St. Alban Roe Library.  Look for the link to the AR quiz lists on this page.  The books are listed alphabetically by title or by reading level.

Please note:  The St. Louis County Public Library no longer accepts a printed report of the AR book titles and quizzes available at our school.  Instead, you may access the list via this website using one of their computers.

World Book Online Reference Center

St. Alban Roe subscribes to the World Book Online Reference Center (WBORC).  WBORC contains thousands of encyclopedia articles, maps and pictures, state of the art multimedia and editor-reviewed web sites.  It is available for our students to use both at school and at home.

On the home page, when a subject is entered in the search box at the top of the screen, WBORC will display a list of encyclopedia articles, tables, pictures, video and animation, special articles, reports and recommended web sites.

The special features offer endless opportunities to learn.  One of the features is Explore the USA.  By clicking on Missouri you have direct access to information about our state's cities, economy, biographies, pictures, etc.

This site also offers World Book Kids, which contains content from the Student Discovery Encyclopedia.  It contains thousands of articles, illustrations, diagrams and maps with easier navigation for younger students.  Access it by clicking on the blue box in the lower left hand corner of the home page.

To view all of the features the site offers, click on Site Contents in the upper right hand corner of the home page.

A link to this site is found in the upper left-hand corner of this page.  To learn the user ID's and passwords, or if you would like more information, please contact Mrs. Bobbitt using e-mail for Fast Direct.

Circulation Guidelines

Kindergarten:  May check out 1 book at a time.  The book should be returned the following week and the student may check out another book.  Parents, please help your child remember the to return their book in each week.  Since this grade level may check out only one book at a time, returning the books each week prevents the disappointment of not being able to check out another book.

Grades 1 and 2:  May check out 1 book.  After the student begins using the Accelerated Reader program two books may be checked out.

Grades 3 through 8:  May check out two books at a time.  Additional books may be checked out if they are needed for a school project

Due Dates:  All books are due back to the library in ten school days.  If they are not returned in ten days an overdue notice will be sent home with the student.

Fines:  There is a five day grace period before an overdue fine begins to accumulate.  After the five days the student will be charged five cens per book, per school day.  A student with a fine of 50 cents or more cannot check out another book until the overdue book is returned and the fine is paid, except with the permission of the librarian.

Renewals:  A book can be renewed if it is not on hold for another student.
