The St. Alban Basketball Program was founded in the mid 1980's. St. Alban began playing in the West county Basketball League (WCBL) in 1994 along with our neighboring parishes. Starting in the 2006-2007 season St. Alban Roe started to play as part of the West County CYC basketball league.

Mission

The mission of the St. Alban Basketball Program is to provide children with the opportunity to learn individual and team Basketball skills in an atmosphere of Christian behavior and fellowship.

Codes of Conduct

The St. Alban program emphasizes appropriate conduct from its players, coaches, parents, and spectators. Any behavior deemed inappropriate, including verbal harassment of players, referees, or coaches will result in the immediate removal from the premises of the person in question. The St. Alban program abides by both its own and the West County CYC League bylaws, which state that any individual harassing or making undue contact with a referee, may be permanently suspended from further participation in the league. This is a Christian based league and inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and it will be dealt with severely. Punishment can include suspension from attending games up to suspension from the league, without any refund.

Leagues

St. Alban Roe Basketball League is divided into 3 different leagues. Training league for 1st and 2nd grade.  Trophy league for grades 3rd through 8th grade.  High School league is for players in high school.  Players are NOT allowed to play up in our leagues.

Training League

We do not keep score in Training league and we use modified rules.
Training League grades are 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls, and teams are limited. This is an intra-parish league whose practices range from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Each team will get 1 half court practice each week. Please keep in mind that some weeks may be cancelled due to gym availability. The League will do it's best to limit these. The black out dates are published on the web site. Most games will be played on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Each team will play approximately 10 games, and games will start on the first weekend in January.

Trophy League

Trophy League grades are 3rd through 8th grade boys and girls. This is an inter-parish CYC league whose practices start from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday through Friday and last for 1 to 1.5 hours. Games are played mostly on Saturday and Sunday but you could have Friday night games. There will be a total of 10 games. Half of the games will be played on our home courts with the remainder at various parishes in West County CYC.

High School League

High School league is a new program at St. Alban Roe, and details can be found on the High School page.

Eligibility

SAR registration for 2011-2012 basketball is open to any individual that meets at least 1 of the following criteria:

1.  You reside within the St. Alban Roe Parish boundary
2.  You do NOT reside within the boundary but one of the following applies:

A.    You are a registered St. Alban Roe parishioner
B.    Your player presently attends St. Alban Roe Full-Time School or PSR
C.     Your player played for a St. Alban Roe basketball team in grades 3 - 7, in 2011-2012 season
D.    Your player is registering to play in grades 1 or 2 (Training League) *
E.     Has received a waiver from their local parish.

* Please note that Training League families (1st & 2nd grade) MAY BE IMPACTED based on parish boundaries upon entering West County CYC in the 3rd grade.

If NONE of the above eligibility conditions apply, please use the link below to determine the Parish in which you reside and then register your player with that Parish.

Completing the registration process DOES NOT guarantee a player will be assigned to a team. The League will do its best to inform registrants ASAP if there are problems regarding team placement.

Team Formation

St. Alban Roe Basketball is a faith-based, recreational league and not a "Select" program.

Team formation is the responsibility of the St. Alban Roe Basketball program and is done so in accordance to the Team Formation Policy.

No team will be allowed to enter/remain in West County CYC if it is discovered that the team was formed based on skill level tryouts.

Players are encouraged to specify a coach on their registration form. Please note that specifying a coach DOES NOT guarantee that a player will be assigned to that team. In order for a player to be placed on a specific team, he/she MUST BE INCLUDED ON THAT COACHES ROSTER. If a player requests a specific coach/team and is NOT included on that coaches official roster he/she will be placed on a list of Pool Players unless that requested coach has less than 9 player for an "A" or "B" division team or 10 players for all other teams.

Player Placement

The placement of players is ultimately the responsibility of the league and not the coach or parents. St. Alban Roe will continue to make every effort to place all registrants on a team.

Families are provided the opportunity to specify a coach as part of the on-line registration process.  Please note that specifying a coach DOES NOT guarantee that a player will be assigned to that team.  In order for a player to be placed on a specific team, they MUST BE approved by the individual coach and included on that coach’s roster.

If a player cannot be placed on their requested team, that player moves to “Pool Player” status. A “Pool Player” is defined as:

·        1st year in St. Alban Roe League & not listed on coaches roster
·        No specific coach identified/requested by family during registration period
·        Requested coach has no roster spots available
·        New player and there are no available spots on any existing roster

Pool players will be assigned based on the following criteria:
·        Previous participation in St. Alban Roe basketball league (i.e., if a player has played the previous season he/she will be the first one assigned to a team)
·        St. Alban Roe Parishioner and/or full-time student at SAR Parish School (based on order of registration)
·        Non St. Alban Roe Parishioner (inside parish boundaries)
·        Non St. Alban Roe Parishioner (outside parish boundaries with a signed waiver)

Season

The season runs from the beginning of January to the end of March. Games played on our home fields are played on Saturday and Sunday. Practices start after Thanksgivings.

Volunteer Opportunities

The St. Alban program relies heavily on volunteer support. If you have a child in the league, or you just love the game and would like to help, contact us via email or telephone PROGRAM CONTACTS. Volunteering is a great way to be close to your child during an important activity in his or her life.

Coaches

We recognize that coaching requires a tremendous amount of time and dedication on behalf of our kids in the program. All coaches and their assistants are required to have a background check performed and must attend the archdiocese "Protecting God’s Children" seminar prior to being provided any team information, practices, etc. Starting in the 2006-2007 season all Coaches will be required to have CYC identification cards and all head coaches will be required to attend Coaching to Make a Positive Difference

Job Opportunities

Referees, Scorekeepers/Timekeepers and Training league referees can get moe information on the Staff.

Work Duty

On occasion it may be necessary to solicit assistance from parents of players for special work duty. Each team must have parents willing to assist when the need arises.

Prayer Before Games

We strongly encourage our coaches to lead the players in a prayer before each game.

Refunds

The registration fee is non-refundable unless the athlete cannot be placed on a team. A registration refund request for any other reason requires the approval of the St. Alban Basketball Board.  The Board will consider a refund only after the receipt of a written description and/or e-mail detailing the reason for the refund.
