The St. Alban Basketball Program was founded in the mid 1980's. St. Alban began playing in the West county Basketball League (WCBL) in 1994 along with our neighboring parishes. Starting in the 2006-2007 season St. Alban Roe will be part of the West County CYC basketball league.

Mission

The mission of the St. Alban Basketball Program is to provide children with the opportunity to learn individual and team Basketball skills in an atmosphere of Christian behavior and fellowship.

Eligibility

Player registration is open to St. Alban Roe parishioners & non-parishioners living within the parish boundary (if openings exist on a team). Non Parishioners living outside parish boundaries may register only after all other children have been placed on a team. Completing a registration form DOES NOT guarantee you a spot on a team! St. Alban Basketball League will do its best to inform you ASAP if we are having problems placing your son or daughter on a team.  If you do not live within St. Alban Roe Parish boundries or a parish member of another CYC parish you must obtain a CYC wavier from that parish before your child can play in our 3rd through 8th grade leagues.  If you are effected by this rule please contact St. Alban Roe CYC rep for assistants.

St. Alban Roe Basketball League is divided into 3 different leagues. Training league for 1st and 2nd grade.  Trophy leauge for grades 3rd through 8th grade.  High School league for players in high school.  Player are NOT allow to play up in our leagues.

Team Placement / Formation

Please keep in mind that St. Alban Roe Basketball league is a recreational league and not s "Select" program.  Team Formation is the responsibility of the St. Alban Roe Basketball program in accordance to the Team Formation Policy.   Players are encouraged to specify a coach on their registration form. Please note that specifying a coach DOES NOT guarantee that a player will be assigned to that team. In order for a player to be placed on a specific team, he/she MUST BE INCLUDED ON THAT COACHES ROSTER. If a player requests a specific coach/team and is NOT included on that coaches official roster he/she will be placed on a list of Pool Players unless that requested coach has less than 10 players. Note: No team will be allow to enter West County CYC if the team was formed based on Skill level tryouts. Formation of new team and placement of player on teams is the ultimate responiblilty of the league and not the coach.

Definition of Pool Player:

  • 1st year in St. Alban Roe Training League.
  • No specific coach identified on registration form and/or is not included on coaches official roster

Pool players will be assigned based on the following criteria:

  1. Previous participation in St. Alban Roe basketball league (i.e., if a player has played the previous season he/she will be the first one assigned to a team)
  2. St. Alban Roe Parishioner (based on order of registration)
  3. Non St. Alban Roe Parishioner (inside parish boundaries)
  4. Non St. Alban Roe Parishioner (outside parish boundaries)

Codes of Conduct

The St. Alban program emphasizes appropriate conduct from its players, coaches, parents, and spectators. Any behavior deemed inappropriate, including verbal harassment of players, referees, or coaches will result in the immediate removal from the premises of the person in question. The St. Alban program abides by both its own and the West County CYC League bylaws, which state that any individual harassing or making undue contact with a referee, may be permanently suspended from further participation in the league. This is a Christian based league and inappropriate or unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and it will be dealt with severely. Punishment can include suspension from attending games up to suspension from the league, without any refund.

Communication

In order to improve communications, the St. Alban Roe Basketball League has set up a Yahoo Group (news group) for player families and coaches. This service is free for the league, coaches and families. This will allow St. Alban Roe Basketball League to communicate with the families and coaches during the season and in that important time just before registration. It will also allow the families and coaches to manage their own email addresses to ensure that everyone will be getting any questionnaires, news or announcements, even if email addresses have changed since registration. The league encourages all families to join this service, it will save a lot of time and it should improve communications.

Volunteer Opportunities

The St. Alban program relies heavily on volunteer support. If you have a child in the league, or you just love the game and would like to help, contact us via email or telephone PROGRAM CONTACTS. Volunteering is a great way to be close to your child during an important activity in his or her life.

Coaches

We recognize that coaching requires a tremendous amount of time and dedication on behalf of our kids in the program. All coaches and their assistants are required to have a background check performed and must attend the archdiocese "Protecting God’s Children" seminar prior to being provided any team information, practices, etc. Starting in the 2006-2007 season all Coaches will be required to have CYC identification cards and all head coaches will be required to attend Coaching to Make a Positive Difference

Job Opportunities

Referees, Scorekeepers/Timekeepers and Training league referees can get moe information on the Staff.

Work Duty

On occasion it may be necessary to solicit assistance from parents of players for special work duty. Each team must have parents willing to assist when the need arises.

Prayer Before Games

We strongly encourage our coaches to lead the players in a prayer before each game.

Refunds

Registration fee is non-refundable unless the athlete cannot be placed on a team. A registration refund for other reason requires the approval of the St. Alban Basketball Board.  The Board will only consider refund if a board member receive a detail reason in writing or email.
